Prof. James Gazzard
Since 2016, Jim has held the position of Director of Continuing Education (Head of Institute) at the University of Cambridge Institute of Continuing Education, where he is responsible for leading 150 academic and administrative colleagues and 300 adjunct tutors in the delivery of a wide-ranging portfolio of open-access personal enrichment and professional development courses which now result in over 7,500 enrolments per annum. He is also in charge of the University of Cambridge’s Madingley Hall site which comprises a 16th century hunting lodge, 14 classrooms, 62 study bedrooms and eight acres of formal gardens. He is currently a Fellow of Wolfson College Cambridge and a Governor at West Suffolk College of Further Education. Previously, from 2012-16, Jim held a full Professorial Chair in Workforce Futures in the School of Health Sciences at the University of East Anglia. He retains an Honorary Professorship at UEA. He was also Associate Dean for Postgraduate Taught Courses, Enterprise and Engagement in UEA’s Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. Earlier in his career, he held education and training focused roles at the Royal Veterinary College (University of London), GlaxoSmithKline Plc and Cranfield School of Management. He started his career in technology transfer and business development, working at the UK Medical Research Council. Jim holds undergraduate (Cardiff) and doctoral (Nottingham) degrees in genetics, an MBA (Stirling) and a postgraduate certificate (London) in university teaching. He was awarded an MA from the University of Cambridge in 2020.
