The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) program focuses on one of two concentrations: Educational Neuroscience or Educational Technology. The Ph.D. program prepares individuals for careers in academia, scientific research, consultancies for higher education, schools in the UAE or wider in higher education institutions in the Gulf, Middle East or worldwide. The Ph.D. in Educational Neuroscience also provides opportunities in the health sector and related areas in business, including emerging fields. In the 2018-2019 academic year, only the Educational Neuroscience will be offered.
The Ph.D. program is a 60-credit program at QF Level 10 offered over four years. With strong theoretical and research foundation and including a six-credit hour research apprenticeship with exceptional local and international researchers in the field, the Ph.D. students will focus on advancing, extending or even redefining knowledge by developing, conducting and critically applying research to important questions facing the Gulf Region. Doctoral students undertake a qualifying comprehensive exam after completing all coursework in the specialized field and research methodology.

The Ph.D. in Educational Neuroscience is a pioneering program: it is the first postgraduate program in the UAE to offer training at the cutting-edge frontier of cognitive neuroscience and education. Key issues in education are framed within the social science of education and the science of learning and behavior. The PhD Program addresses the essence of education: how do we learn? What can be done to improve learning? How support those struggling with learning? The Cognitive Neuroimaging Unit (CNU) at ECAE is a dedicated research unit with world-experts and laboratory facilities to advance research that merges cognitive neuroscience and education.
