Executive Vice President, Khalifa University (KU)


Dr. Arif Sultan Al Hammadi has professional experience in the Academic and Telecommunications fields. Currently, he is serving in the Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK) as the Executive Director of the Higher Education Sector and in Khalifa University of Science Technology and Research as the Executive Vice President.

Prior to joining ADEK in August 2012, he held many key academic roles and positions such as the Interim Founding President of Khalifa University of Science, Technology and Research (KUSTAR), and then was appointed as the Executive Vice President in KUSTAR. Dr. Arif also held several other key positions in the educational field, including Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, Deputy Head of the Computer Engineering Department, and Manager of Etisalat University College.

He is currently leading the UAE’s “ANKABUT” Project (the United Arab Emirates’ National Research and Education Network) to establish an advanced network across all UAE Universities that connects academic institutions to other education networks around the world.

Dr. Arif is the Chairman of Gulf Nuclear Infrastructure Institute, and led the establishment of the ETISALAT_ BT Innovation Center (EBTIC). In addition, Dr. Arif is the founding Chair of the UAE Mobile Application Contest and the UAE ICT Research Forum. He is also a board member at Strata, Mubadala’s composite aerostructures manufacturing facility, and previously served as a board member in the UAE ICT fund.

Dr. Arif has lead the establishment of the first Institute of Civil and International Security in the region, Developing the Strategic plan and vision of Etisalat University College, developing the electronic student registry system in Etisalat University College, supervising the establishment of the first Master Degree Program in Info. Security, as well as supervising the first Ph.D. Program in Engineering in the UAE, and many other key academic achievements.

Dr. Arif has lectured and published on various subjects and specializations within Computer and Communication Networks, including network performance engineering, network simulation and modeling, quality of service (QoS) control and congestion control mechanisms in addition to applications of artificial intelligence and multimedia.

Dr. Arif holds a Ph.D. Degree in Telecommunications which he obtained from the Queen Mary, University of London (2000) and is a holder of a Bachelor Degree in Telecommunications Engineering with Honors from Etisalat University College–UAE (1994).
