 ECAE is proud to host its 3rd Annual Health Awareness Week from March 21-25. The week-long event was launched Thursday, March 18, when the Abu Dhabi Mobile Blood Unit visited the campus and ECAE students, faculty, and staff lined up to donate the “gift of life” by generously giving blood to this worthwhile cause.
Various health-related lectures and activities focusing on what it takes to get healthy and stay healthy in today’s world were attended by faculty, staff and students in the Foundations and B Ed programs. Experts on nutrition, herbal and Arabic medicines, health and lactation shared their knowledge in a series of lectures presented throughout the week.
In addition, students were able to get insight on many healthcare issues by visiting the Health Fair on Wednesday, March 24. Individual booths were set up by a variety of medical practitioners and exhibitors who focused on health issues. They included representatives from UAE Red Crescent, who checked blood pressure and visual health as well as lung power on fair participants. In addition, fair-goers were able to get tested for diabetes, and received weight and BMI (body measurement index) information. Corniche Hospital provided information for new and soon-to-be mothers, Emirates Thalassemia Society distributed information and Emirates Crescent shared materials related to herbal medicines.
Several Health Fair participating agencies contributed generously throughout the week with free gifts for students and faculty: Nuxe Cosmetics, Dr. Nutrition Center, Abbott Dairy Products, and Al Manara Pharmacy.
Two sponsors ensured that the week was truly successful: Delta Medical Est. donated the graphic designs and promotional materials such as programs, posters, and printed materials while Gulf & Safa Dairies Company provided dairy products for everyone. Their generous donations were greatly appreciated.
